Context Program?
World Culture in Context is a project of the Center for Cultural Vibrancy, a 501 ( c ) 3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support and celebrate traditional artists–musicians, craftspeople, dancers, and more—to promote cultural exchange and education worldwide.
How do I use the World Culture in Context Program?
We created this handy page to walk you through the program. Check it out!
I’m just learning about this program and want to schedule an artist visit soon. How far out do I need to schedule the artist virtual visit?
Ideally we have a minimum of two months to schedule a program but let us know your needs and we will do our best to accommodate.
How many students can participate in a virtual program?
We recommend limiting the number of students per event to 75 or no more than three classrooms simultaneously.
I would like to host a full school assembly. Is that possible?
It can be difficult to have impactful engagement with too many students in a room, thus our recommendation of a limit of 3 classrooms or 75 students.
How many grades can participate in a virtual visit at the same time?
We tailor our programs to students operating at similar grade levels. We leave it to our school partners to determine the best fit based on their own knowledge of their student body.
Can my school schedule back to back artist visits with different classes on the same day?
Yes!
What does my classroom need to host a virtual artist visit?
Your classroom needs a computer with a camera, speakers and microphone plus a connection to the internet.
I would like the artist to visit my school in-person. Is that possible?
Yes! Often in-person visits are cost prohibitive given the artists’ geographic locations but please email us so we can discuss further.
Our school has a virtual-only program. Can you facilitate this program with students each on their own computers?
Yes! That is how this program first started and we are adept at this model.
Do my students have to complete all of the activities listed in “Prepare for Your Visit” or the activities in “Bringing in Back Home; Follow-Up Activities”?
How you incorporate these activities in your lesson plans is up to you. Watching the video and preparing questions prior to the virtual visit are strongly recommended.
What virtual portal do you use for the artist visits?
We prefer Zoom for all virtual programs. We can use Google Meet, Teams or other programs based on your school requirements.
How much does it cost to schedule a program?
The cost per engagement is $1,000. The World Culture in Context program strives to create a model that offers fair wages to artists which respects their gifts and honors their mastery of tradition.
Is there support available to help offset the costs if needed?
Yes! Please fill out this form so we can better understand your needs. We aim to bring this program to all communities, irrespective of financial means.
My school has a complicated system to pay artists. Can you work with that?
Yes! We understand that many districts may require us to fill out various forms that take time and due diligence. We are ready to work with you.
But can we still pay for a single program with a credit card?
Of course!
Do you record the Virtual Artist Visit?
We record all virtual programs for historical purposes. If you would like us to not record, please inform us prior to the event. No images of your students will be used for any public purposes whatsoever without express permission.
Can I use the artist info, pre-visit activities, and artist video without paying for the program?
While we feel that the program has the most impact when you schedule an artist virtual visit and engage your students in the post visit activities, we understand this might not be necessary for all teachers and all educational institutions. If you do use part of the program, please let us know so we can track this for internal use.
I am an artist interested in getting involved in the program.
We add a select number of artists each year to the roster based on numerous factors. Please contact us to inquire.
I have additional questions. Can I schedule a conversation with someone on your team?
Yes, please drop us a line by visiting our Contact page.
